Reserve your plot today!

Just a reminder that the "early bird" plot rental fee ($40) expires this Saturday, January 18th.  After that date, the plots will be $50, so if you know you want to garden with us this year, now is a great time to sign up!  Just drop a signed contract and check payable to Byrd Park Community Garden off at Ruthie Morrison's house (2112 Lakeview Avenue).  We'd love to have you join us!

Attention all gardeners or hopefuls!

The Byrd Park Community Garden is now officially accepting new and renewing plot renters for the 2014 season (February 1, 2014-January 31, 2015).  If you'd like a new plot or to renew your existing plot, here's what you do:

1.  Print out and sign the garden contract.
2.  Write your check payable to Byrd Park Community Garden.
3.  Drop these two items off at the home of Ruth Morrison, 2112 Lakeview Ave.

Now, the question of "How much for a plot?":  To encourage eager beaver-ness, if you get your contract and money in by January 18th, your fee is only $40.  If after, January 18th, it's $50.

Before January 18th, current plot renters will be given priority.  After the cut-off date, plots will be assigned first-come, first-served.  For new plot renters, Byrd Park residents will be given priority.

So, get on it!

Happy Holidays!

Send us an email at byrdparkcommunitygarden@gmail.com for the contract or if you have any questions.

Calling all gardeners (actual or aspirational)!

We're getting ready to start our 2013 growing season and we've got some plots available for neighbors who want to garden with us!  Plots (4x8 feet) are $50 for the season and include access to the garden shed containing tools and seeds, compost, and good old-fashioned neighbor fun!  Please contact us at byrd@tricyclegardens.org for more information about renting a plot.

We've Grown!

Well, it's the end of the summer, and the garden has grown!  We've been so busy planting, weeding, watering, and harvesting (the best part!) that we've neglected to post.  But we'll try to get better.  Here are some pics of our labor come to fruition:

Our lovely sign, designed by Karen Guard (neighbor and graphic artist).

 Here comes the sun (flower)!

A helpful little waterer, tending the community herb garden.

The old Russian folktale "The Giant Turnip," but we do it Byrd Park style:  The Giant Weed!

Susan Loop gets her garden ready for fall.

 Peppers and tomatoes...

 ...and eggplant (ratatouille, anyone?).

 Edamame, ready for picking.

 Okra and flowers.

 A ripe and ready cuke.

 And this melon looks promising.

Beware of little boys carrying snake gourds!

Well, folks, that's all for now.  But come on out to the garden and see more for yourself.  We're having a neighborhood potluck next Sunday evening (extra points for dishes made with garden produce!), September 9th at 6pm.  So come join us!  And eat your veggies!
